Visit Yellowstone National Park Like A Local

Grand Prismatic Spring

Are you planning your trip to Yellowstone National Park and looking for all the best things to do? You have come to the right place. We got our staff together and asked them to list a few of their favorite spots. While Yellowstone is a huge park and would take a few days. However, we have prioritized a few known landmarks and maybe some not so known.

Even better, stay with us during the 2022 summer season and receive a US National Parks annual pass in honor of Yellowstone’s 150th birthday!

In no particular order, you definitely do not want to miss Old Faithful, Grand Prismatic Spring, Mammoth Hot Springs, and Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. If you’re lucky enough to have more time in the park, we recommend adding Upper Geyser Basin, Biscuit Basin, Artist’s Paint Pots, Gibbon Falls, Sulphur Caldron, Mud Volcano, and Hayden Valley, and Lamar Valley.

– Hike to Observation Point for a birds eye view of Old Faithful. This is a great place to escape the crowds. You can also take a seat at the Old Faithful Inn viewing deck and enjoy a drink while you watch the eruption.

– The Grand Prismatic Spring, while popular, is not to be missed for its extreme beauty. On a sunny day, the colors are spectacular.

– One of our favorite hikes is Fairy Falls. It takes you to an overlook to see the Grand Prismatic Spring from above, and if you keep going after the overlook, it’ll take you to a waterfall called Fairy Falls.

– To explore the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, hike the longer North Rim Trail. This trail follows the northern rim of the canyon, and takes you to many of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone’s top viewpoints, including Brink of the Upper Falls, Crystal Falls Overlook, Lookout Point, and Grand View. The trail dead-ends at Inspiration Point, offering impressive canyon views.

– If you’re looking for an easy hike, consider the Storm Point Trail. This 2.5-mile hike takes you to the shores of Yellowstone Lake, and during the summer, you’ll find the grassy meadows along the trail filled with colorful wildflowers. You may even be able to spot some bison (just keep your distance)!

Lamar Valley is hands down one of the best places to view wildlife. It’s an incredible experience to view herds of bison.

While the list of things to do is endless, but whether for a day or a few days, it is a park nothing short of spectacular. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the establishment of Yellowstone National Park so there is even more to do.

We invite you to come visit Yellowstone this year and stay with us. We have properties in both Jackson Hole and Teton Valley, Idaho. Teton Valley, Idaho actually being a bit closer to Yellowstone National Park. Either location, you will not be disappointed by our luxury accommodations.

Yellowstone Celebrates 150 Years

Stay with us during the 2022 summer season and receive a US National Parks annual pass in honor of Yellowstone’s 150th birthday!

March 1, 2022 marked the 150th anniversary of the establishment of Yellowstone National Park, but the park is celebrating all summer long.

During March-August this year, the park and partners will provide opportunities to reflect on 150 years of protecting Yellowstone National Park, highlight successes in the ecosystem, and open dialogue on the lessons learned from yesterday, the challenges of today, and a vision for tomorrow. We will focus on the stewards of Yellowstone, conservation and historic preservation, visitor experience, infrastructure, Tribal Nations, and partner engagement via social media, a bimonthly virtual video series featuring various subject matter experts, and a range of both virtual and in-person activities. Of particular importance to Yellowstone during the commemoration is to be reflective, intentional, inclusive, and impactful.

When Yellowstone became a national park, it was the first of its kind in the world. The notion of setting aside wild land to protect it from development was alien to a lot of Americans back then. Because of a lot of park rangers, legislators, policies and citizens, Yellowstone is just as unique as it was when it was founded.

Yellowstone serves as the core of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, one of the last and largest nearly intact natural ecosystems on the planet. Yellowstone has the most active, diverse, and intact collections of combined geothermal features with over 10,000 hydrothermal sites and half the world’s active geysers. The park is also rich in cultural and historical resources with 25 sites, landmarks, and districts on the National Register of Historic Places.
