Why May is Great in Jackson Hole

Visiting Jackson Hole in winter and summer is undoubtedly awesome, but ask anyone who has traveled to Jackson Hole in May, and they’ll tell you to make time to visit during the spring. Here are a few reasons why:

Revived Energy

As the snow melts, the grass greens and wildflowers begin to bloom, there is a revived sense of energy and serenity. The entire area seems to burst to life, and yet, the summer crowds are still at bay. The weather can be quite enjoyable this time of year as well with average temperatures in the mid-60s. Visiting this time of year is unique and exciting in Jackson Hole.

The Re-Opening of Two of the Best National Parks

The gateway to two of the greatest national parks, Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park. Both national parks are extremely popular amongst summer vacationers and can become crowded in July and August. The parks are open year-round, but some of the main roads in and out are closed during winter time, and only re-open again in May, making May the perfect month to visit to take in the scenery. We promise the fields of wildflowers will not disappoint.

Elkfest

ElkFest, a weekend of activities built around the 51st annual world famous Jackson Hole Boy Scout Elk Antler Auction, is an exciting time for celebrating nature, outdoor skills, and hunting and ecological education and awareness on May 18th.

Every spring, thousands of elk wintering on the National Elk Refuge lose their antlers before they migrate to their summer range. The Boy Scouts assist the Refuge with harvesting the shed antlers and auction them to bidders from around the world who make furniture, wall decorations, jewelry and food products from them. This annual event, which includes the High Noon Chili Cook-Off (Sunday, May 19) and the Mountain Man Rendezvous kick-off, supports the National Elk Refuge with a large portion of auction proceeds going back to habitat enhancement projects on the Refuge. For more information on ElkFest, contact the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce at info@jacksonholechamber.com

Deepest February Ever

ski jackson hole

February 2019 was a month to remember for skiers and snowboarders in Jackson Hole. It was the deepest February ever with 212″ of snowfall over the course of the month bringing our total season snowfall to 465″. To put this in perspective, we received snowfall on 23 of the 28 days in February.

We have been enjoying Jackson’s famous powder on the slopes, and with conditions at some of their best ever according to mountain goers, we set our sights on March and wonder what will be in store for our weather forecast. We know for sure there will be tons of things to do and our event calendar has all the details.
