Whether you need a break from the champagne powder or just aren’t that into downhill skiing, here are seven other awesome things to do on your winter vacation in Jackson Hole. A vacation to Jackson Hole doesn’t always have to be about skiing.

HOP ON A FAT TIRE BIKE

Spend a day taking in the surrounding beauty by pedal power on a fat bike. In town the trails at Cache Creek Canyone are easy to access or head up to Grand Teton National Park for a ride under the Tetons.

RACE THROUGH THE SNOW BY DOG SLED

Let a team of dogs pull you through the snow, It’s exhilarating, exciting, and often called a one-in-a-lifetime experience. Take an expedition into our glorious Wyoming backcountry or travel to Granite Hot Springs. A local favorite for relaxing, Granite Hot Springs is a natural hot spring nestled in the Gros Ventre Mountains.

STRAP ON CROSS-COUNTRY SKIS OR SNOWSHOES

While still technically skiing, the cross-country version of the sport lets you enjoy Jackson Hole at a more relaxed pace. Beginners and experts alike can glide through miles of snow-blanketed trails. Much of this terrain also makes for great snowshoeing.

TOUR THE NATIONAL PARKS

Take a guided tour through Yellowstone National Park or a snowshoe adventure in Grand Teton National Park. Our parks are a popular place to explore, though there are also a number of trails near town that are regularly maintained and groomed such as Cache Creek Canyon.

GET CLOSE TO ELK

Get up close and personal with Jackson Hole’s resident herd of elk, numbering in the thousands, in a cozy, horse-drawn sleigh ride. After the sleigh ride, visit the National Museum of Wildlife Art across the street, representing more than 5,000 wildlife works of art.

FLY ABOVE JACKSON HOLE

Bring the whole family along for a thrilling adventure. While experiencing Jackson Hole, nothing quite compares to seeing the breath-taking natural beauty from the sky. From the air, learn about the legendary fur trappers and Native Americans who unlocked this Dynamic Landscape.

A Jackson Hole Winter Update for the 2020/2021 Season

jackson hole mountain resort

While the magic of fall is still happening in Jackson, this doesn’t mean you can’t start thinking about your Jackson Hole winter plans. Believe it or not, our luxury villas are starting to fill up now for winter. But you are probably curious about what Jackson Hole Mountain Resort plans to do this winter. They recently released an update of their winter plans to accommodate the need for physical distancing to reduce crowding and to keep everyone safe which we are summarizing here:

  • Reduced capacity in each of their restaurants, supplemented with heated tents and additional tables for dining.
  • Reduced crowding in the base area through queue management and maze configurations, along with increased lift speeds when possible to move guests more rapidly uphill.
  • Commencing with the holidays and continuing as long as necessary and when possible, they will start the Teewinot, Sweetwater and Après Vous lifts at 8:30 a.m., subject to snow control efforts, so that guests can move out of the base area earlier and enjoy more time on the snow.
  • The Aerial Tram will operate but at a significantly reduced capacity on a first-come, first-served basis. For additional access to Rendezvous Bowl and the backcountry, they will introduce a boot pack from the top of the Sublette lift.
  • A maximum daily capacity has been established for guests at JHMR and will limit the number of tickets available for purchase each day to enable sufficient physical distancing in the base area, buildings and facilities to keep guests safe.
  • Starting October 5, tickets will be sold through an online advanced ticket purchasing system for day and afternoon tickets.

More information on the resorts plan can be found on jacksonhole.com in their recent update and faqs.

We invite you to explore our portfolio of vacation rentals and contact our team to discuss your winter plans. While skiing is most likely on your winter to do list, there is tons of other winter fun to take part in when you aren’t on the slopes including sleigh rides, dog sledding, snowshoeing, fat tire biking and more. Explore the options here.
